Sometimes silicone products are formed in the mold, and the raw materials are in contact with the surface of the mold, which may cause a certain frictional resistance when the silicone rubber products are peeled off from the mold due to micro-defects such as unevenness on the working surface of the mold. During the molding process, negative pressure is often formed between the material and the mold, or the two are sticky due to physical adsorption or raw material reaction, which makes it difficult to peel the product from the mold after molding.

However, in order to weaken the adsorption or junction between the silicone product and the mold, the technical aspect often uses an additive-release agent that can form an effective isolation film. The mold release agent is an interface film layer used on the surfaces of two objects that are easy to be separated from each other, so as to form an isolation between the gapped object and the erected object, so that it is easy to peel off, and the product is easier and more convenient to release.

Overview of the types and applications of release agents:

There are many types of generalized release agents, which are used in chemical, metallurgy, building materials and other fields. This lecture is limited to release agents in the chemical industry, and mainly discusses the external release agents related to the molding and processing of rubber and plastic materials.

There are many basic substances that can be used as mold release agents. Commonly used mold release agents include inorganic, organic and polymer types. Commonly used inorganic release agents include graphite powder, talc powder, mica powder, molybdenum disulfide and other powders; commonly used organic release agents include fatty acids, fatty acid soaps, various waxes, ethylene glycol, etc. The release agent also acts as a lubricant; the polymer release agents mainly include polyvinyl alcohol, cellulose acetate, organic fluorine polymers and silicone polymers, among which silicone polymers are the most suitable release agents.

The dosage form of the release agent is divided into two types: solid and liquid. The solid form is the use of fine powder materials. Because the powder materials are inconvenient to use and may be transferred to the surface of rubber and plastic products, they are rarely used in the processing of rubber and plastic products. The initial form of the mold release agents that are often used is mostly liquid, and some use liquid bulk polymers, and there are solutions, emulsions, and pastes prepared by adding solvents, emulsifiers, fillers and other components based on effective main substances. They can be combined with propellants to make aerosols, etc. Some of the release agents coated on the mold exist in the form of liquid films, while others are solidified into solid films.

Types and characteristics of silicone release agents:

There are many types of silicone-based mold release agents. According to the characteristics of product form, material composition, use form and other characteristics:

  (1) Organosilane and its solution

The release agent base material is organochlorosilane or organoalkoxysilane. For example, organosilicon compounds such as methylchlorosilane, methylethoxysilane, phenylchlorosilane, and phenylethoxysilane, or an organosilane solution in which the above organosilanes are dissolved in an organic solvent, are coated on the surface of the mold, that is, Can form anti-rutting working film. The direct use of organosilane as a release agent has certain limitations. Among them, organochlorosilane absorbs moisture in the air and hydrolyzes during the film-forming process, and the hydrogen chloride released is corrosive. Therefore, it is only suitable for corrosion-resistant molds such as glass and ceramics. .

  (2) Silicone oil and its solution, ointment

The base material of mold release agent is inert linear high molecular organosilicon polymer such as methyl silicone oil, methyl phenyl silicone oil and various modified silicone oils. The commonly used silicone oil release agent is a silicone oil solution prepared by adding silicone oil as the main component and adding organic solvents such as toluene and gasoline. Add silica, diatomite, mica powder and other solid components with silicone oil, and knead to make a semi-solid paste-type mold release agent.

  (3) Silicone rubber and its solution

Liquid silicone rubber can be directly used as a release agent, but more applications are to mix silicone rubber with organic solvents to prepare a silicone rubber solution, and then mix with cross-linking agents, catalysts and other auxiliary components, and apply it to the surface of the mold to form vulcanized silicone rubber. working film.

  (4) Silicone resin and its solution

The base material of the release agent is a cross-linkable and curable silicone polymer such as methyl silicone resin and methyl phenyl silicone resin. Usually, the above silicone resin is dissolved in organic solvents such as ethanol, toluene and gasoline to prepare a silicone resin solution. The mold release agent is applied to the mold surface by spraying or dipping, and then the silicone resin is cured into a working film by heating and other methods. .

  (5) Silicone emulsion

Using silicone oil or silicone resin as the main component, and then adding emulsifier, water, etc. to prepare an emulsion. The water emulsion coated on the surface of the mold forms a release agent working film after the water volatilizes.

  (6) Silicone aerosol

With silicone oil as the main component, mixed with freon, butane and other propellants, mixed and packaged in a sealed container. When the release agent is applied, the propellant carries the main component of the release agent and is sprayed on the surface of the mold, the propellant volatilizes quickly, and the residue forms a working film of the release agent.

  (7) Other types

In addition, there are also direct application of silicone rubber to make elastic molds. Silicone rubber molds not only have good heat resistance, but also have excellent performance of anti-knot and easy demoulding, especially suitable for molding and demoulding of products with complex shapes.
